Artist Biography: Jack Black’s work is a tribute to the culture and beauty of the southwest. His sculpture is characterized by graceful lines and simplicity of form. The glazed surfaces are smooth to the eye as well as the touch, and the understated detail creates a feel of timelessness. He began with raw clay to crate the original sculpture from which production molds are made. Then stoneware figures are cast. After the figures are cleaned and detail is added by hand, they are fired at degrees. Jack’s works are then sanded, cleaned again and bruised with three coats of high fire glaze. The entire process is by hand. The last step involves referring at degrees. Each of Jack Black’s sculptures is unique, no two are exactly alike.
